ST. THOMAS - CHRISTIANSTED - FREDERIKSTED

Cover cancelled St.Thomas January 26 1903 and addressed to Frederiksted. Backstamped January 27. Note the cover reads "Vigilant via Christiansted".

The sailing schooner Vigilant was used as mail boat between St.Thomas and Christiansted from around 1900. It was about 100 years old at that time and was a popular tourist attraction.

Vigilant brought passengers - packages and mail between the islands mainly between St. Thomas and St Croix - but occasionally the shipping route also went to Puerto Rico.
